How do I connect a Bluetooth Keyboard or Mouse to my Mac?

USING EXISTING WIRED OR CURRENTLY CONNECTED WIRELESS KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
  • Make sure your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are in pairing mode. Usually, this involves turning them on and pressing a specific button or switch to enable pairing (See instructions provided with accessory, see below for Apple accessories).
  • On your Mac, click on the Apple menu () in the top-left corner of the screen and select “System Preferences” or “System Settings.”

  • In the System Preferences window, click on the “Bluetooth” icon. Make sure the Bluetooth feature is turned on (the switch should be in the “On” position).
  • Once the Bluetooth preferences window opens, your Mac will search for available Bluetooth devices. Ensure your keyboard and mouse are within range of the Mac and powered on.
  • When your keyboard and mouse appear in the list of available devices, click on the “Pair” or “Connect” button next to each device. Follow any additional on-screen instructions, if prompted.

Note: Some Bluetooth devices including the Apple keyboards may require you to enter a passcode or PIN during the pairing process. If prompted, type the code displayed on the keyboard and press enter. Non-Apple accessories follow the instructions provided by your keyboard or mouse manufacturer to enter the necessary passcode.

  • After pairing, your keyboard and mouse should be connected to your Mac. You can close the Bluetooth preferences window.

  • Make sure the keyboard is turned off.
  • Locate the power button on the Apple Wireless Keyboard. It is located on the right side of the keyboard, near the top.
  • Press and hold the power button. Keep holding it down.
  • While still holding the power button, you will notice that the green LED indicator light on the keyboard starts blinking.
  • Continue holding the power button until the green LED indicator light starts blinking rapidly. This rapid blinking indicates that the keyboard is now in pairing mode.
  • Release the power button.

Apple Magic Mouse (AA Battery)

  • Ensure that the mouse is turned off.
  • Flip the mouse upside down to expose the bottom surface.
  • Locate the power switch on the bottom of the Apple Magic Mouse.
  • Slide the power switch to the “On” position. The mouse should turn on and enter pairing mode.

Apple Magic Trackpad (AA Battery)

  • Ensure that the trackpad is turned off.
  • Press and hold the power button located on the side of the trackpad.
  • While continuing to hold the power button, the trackpad’s status indicator light will start blinking, indicating that it is in pairing mode.
  • Keep holding the power button until the indicator light blinks rapidly, which confirms that the trackpad is in pairing mode.
  • Release the power button.

Apple Magic Keyboard/Magic Mouse 2/Magic Trackpad (Rechargeable)

These devices will self connect to your Mac by plugging the Lightning charging cable into the device and the USB end into your Mac, once the Mac indicates that the device is connected the cable can be removed.
